Festival of Nine Days Navratri

Navratri is one of the Famous festivals in India which celebrated for nine days. During Navratri Devotees worshipped Goddess Durga and her nine forms Devotees decorates temples and Celebrates nine nights and nine days with their friends and family. Nav + ratri make navratri which means nine nights. This festival is mostly celebrated by Hindus with great joy and reverence. Devotees worship Maa Durga in a joyous way. This nine days festival comes twice in year. Once in March-April and second time it’s come in September-October. After nine days of celebration, the tenth day devotees celebrated ‘Vijaya Dashmi’ or ‘Dussehra. Dussehra is one of the famous festivals of India. On this day Rama won over Devil Ravana. It shows that at the end good always won over bad. Devotees celebrated this day by having sweet dishes like Jalebi.

With all rituals devotees worshipped Maa Durga all nine forms. First day devotees celebrate Goddess Shailputri. Second day they worshipped Goddess Brahmacharini. Third day they do puja of Goddess Chandraghanta. On the fourth day is devoted to Goddess Kushmanda. Fifth day is Goddess Skanda day and devotees worship her. On sixth day Maa Katyayani is worship by devotees. Maa Goddess Kaalratri and Goddess Maha Gauri worshipped on seventh and eighth day. And the last day that is on Ninth day is dedicated to Siddhidatri’ and ‘Saraswati’ and celebrated this day as ‘Ram Navami’. Devotees believe that each and every day has their importance and meaning.

Navratri festival celebration varies from one state to other state although their devotion and dedication are same. Gujarat, Mumbai and Bengal are famous for navratri celebration.  If you want to enjoy navratri you should visit these places. In Gujarat people during these nine days of Navratri After the arti, people gather and put their foot forward for garba and dandiya. Garba and dandiya are the traditional dance and on which people show their best moves to each other. They dance with two bamboo sticks called Dandiya and Garba is something in which people dance in circle and change partners with time. They have a specific outfit for their traditional dance called choli and ghaghra for women and wear dhoti and kurta.   Every day of navratri devotees perform arti with garbi, a earthen a port with diyas is used that signifies prosperity. On Ahmedabad-Rajkot National highway there are some temples in Gujarat that host the navratri festival on large scale.
However in Mumbai, people celebrate navratri in modern twist and in Delhi people play Ramlila that takes all over the city where people perform on stage some important scenes from Ramayana. In   west Bengal state people worshipped huge idol of Maa Durga.

Devotees also do fasting in navratri. Some eat fruit and milk during the entire navratri. Some people eat meal at one time but the meal is vegetarian only. Fasting is not compulsory but still devotees give honor to Maa Durga by having fasting. People believes some superstitious things that don’t cut hair in navratri, people don’t eat non-veg and have any drink.

People worship young girls and wash their feet and feed them with sweet dishes like black chane, puri and halwa. On the ninth day of navratri people commenced their fast.

The main objective is the festival is to celebrate the victory of good over evil.
