The people whose skin is exposed to the sun, usually suffer from the problem of dark spots. The condition is known as hyperpigmentation. The cause of this problem, however, cannot be just the external factors. Causes such as pregnancy, aging, prescription medicines, hormonal imbalances, and even acne can also form dark spots on a person’s skin.
The dark spots are formed when the skin produces extra melanin. Melanin is the substance that is responsible for giving the skin its color. While there exist various medications and treatments like chemical peels, glycolic acid pads, manual exfoliation, laser treatment, microdermabrasion, Retin-A, etc. for the removal of dark spots, going natural for this treatment is the most sought out way.
Below given are some ways in which a person can reduce and remove the dark spots on face.
1) Aloe Vera
Aloe vera can be an efficient way to remove dark spots. Applying either the natural aloe vera gel or the aloe vera juice for 30 minutes on the affected area can help the condition. Wash the face with lukewarm water after 30 minutes. It also moisturizes the skin. This can be done twice a day until satisfactory results are seen.
2) Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar can be diluted in and mixed with water in a bowl to be applied on the dark spots. They can also be mixed with a few drops of lemon juice or orange juice. It can be left on the skin for 15 to 20 minutes and then washed off with lukewarm water. Apply a hydrating moisturizer afterward.
Lemons are another great way to reduce the dark spots on the skin. A slice of lemon can be cut and applied to the area for about 10 minutes every day to see the fast results. In the case of sensitive skin, a tablespoon of lemon juice could be mixed with water or even rose water and applied to the area with the help of a cotton ball or cotton pad. Leave it on for 30 minutes, wash it with water, and apply a face moisturizer after patting the face dry.
Buttermilk can also be used and applied to the dark spots every day for over 15 minutes to remove dark spots. For people who have oily skin, the buttermilk can be mixed with lemon or lime juice.
5) Castor oil
Castor oil is yet another home remedy for hyperpigmentation. Use a Q-tip to apply the oil on the dark areas and wash it off later with a good cleanser.
The green papaya has been known to work wonders for the dark spots. To use it, one needs to remove the seeds and blend the papaya to form a paste. This paste can then be applied on the face and neck for about 30 minutes and rinsed off later.
